Some basic information on the carpet yarn and dye methods:

Types of Carpet:

Nylon - This is the best type of yarn because it is a hard material that very rarely wears down. Most manufacturers offer a 10 year warranty for this type of carpet against excessive wear. This type of carpet is excellent for high traffic areas and long term projects.

Olefin - This is a softer yarn and will wear down in under 10 years. However, it is good for low traffic areas or shorter term projects.

Dye Methods:

Solution Dyed - In a solution died carpet the process begins with melting down the polymer into a solution and then dying the entire solution. Next, the solution is astride into the Nylon. This process is similar to a carrot, if you slice it open you see orange through and through. It is orange on the inside and the outside. If you get a stain on a solution dyed product you're able to aggressively clean it out, even a bleaching process will take out the stain and leave the color as good as new.

Yarn Dyed - In a yarn died carpet the process begins by melting down the polymer and astruding it in its natural color, which is clear white. Then the yarn is taken and put in a vat of dye where it is died. This finished product can be compared to a radish. It is red on the outside, but white on the inside. The carpet will have the dye on the exterior of the yarn. In some cases you have to be careful with aggressively cleaning it. If you clean too aggressively you might remove the stain as well as the dye, leaving the white interior of the carpet exposed.

Installers:

A list of certified installers in your area is on our website. They do jobs for individuals AND local stores. In both cases they charge the same amount of money. However, if you hire the installer from the store they will add an extra $2-$3 a yard onto the price for their overhead. By going directly to the installer you will save that $2-$3 a yard for your installation. This is on top of your savings of 50-70% off your carpet!

Freight Shipping

The carpet will be transported to the local Depot from the Carpet Mill. From there it will be loaded onto a truck that is headed to the Depot closest to you. Once unloaded at your local depot the carpet will be scheduled to be delivered by a local carrier to your exact location.

Unloading

Carpet is heavy and requires two or more men and/or a four wheel dolly which can be purchased or rented.

Carpet is delivered by tractor trailer freight line. This is not required to off load. If you don't have a loading dock, have a few men to off load.

The Carpet

Competitive Commercial Carpet buys from several mills and has every quality of carpet from low to very high. Some carpets have a limited life span for the low traffic or short-term projects with little or no warranties. Other carpets are manufactured and designed to last a long time in extreme high traffic areas and have lifetime warranties. Most of our carpets are made with nylon fibers to ensure long life. At times we have carpet made with olefin or polypropylene fibers for those low traffic or short-term applications. Carpet constructions range from level loop, textured loop, cut and loop, and cuts. Questions with selecting the correct carpet construction for your application can be answered by calling (585)425-2500 or emailing us at craig@competitivecommercialcarpet.com.

Warranties

Most carpet mills offer warranties in the following areas:

Wear - Protects you against premature wearing of the fibers.

Delamination - Protects against the carpet fibers separating from the carpet backing. This sometimes looks like elevated areas or bubbles in the carpet.

Edge Ravel - Mainly at seams one or more rows of tufts (stitches) can unravel and leave a gap in between rows.

Running - Tufts pull out and run down the length of the carpet.

Staining - Covers stains that you are unable to remove (soiling over a period of time is not covered)

Return Policy

The carpets that we sell are mostly specials, excess inventory and discontinued styles that cannot be returned unless it has a manufacturing defect. All carpets need to be inspected before installation. Once the carpet has been cut and/or installed it cannot be returned.

The number one issue typically is style and color. Make sure you order a free sample to ensure you like the style and color. Keep in mind the sample you receive will most likely be a different dye lot then the carpet you order. Dye lot colors do vary from batch to batch.
